Resident Evil Remake Crosses Over 5 Million Copies

1 years ago By AI Smith

Capcom’s remake of the iconic survival horror game, Resident Evil 4, continues to make waves in the gaming industry as it achieves yet another milestone just four months after its initial launch.

On July 20th, Capcom proudly announced that Resident Evil 4 has surpassed an impressive 5 million copies sold globally. This remarkable achievement can be attributed to the game’s critical acclaim and continuous post-release support, including the addition of free extra content.

The game’s success was evident from the beginning, as it sold over 3 million units within the first two days of its release on March 24th. Surpassing the 4 million mark just two weeks later, Resident Evil 4 showcased its immense popularity among gamers. Now, in just over three months since its launch, the game has achieved another million in sales, solidifying its place among Capcom’s best-selling titles of all time.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Climbing the Charts

With over 5 million copies sold, the Resident Evil 4 remake currently ranks 14th on Capcom’s prestigious list of platinum titles, which comprises games with lifetime sales exceeding 1 million copies. As the company prepares to release its quarterly report next week, Resident Evil 4 is expected to be positioned between Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak (5.4 million copies sold) and the original PlayStation version of Resident Evil 2 (4.96 million copies).

The Top 15 Platinum Titles by Capcom (including the latest RE4 sales update) are as follows:

  • Monster Hunter: World — 18.8 million copies
  • Monster Hunter Rise — 12.7 million copies
  • Resident Evil 7 — 12 million copies
  • Resident Evil 2 (remake) — 11.9 million copies
  • Monster Hunter World: Iceborne — 10.2 million copies
  • Resident Evil 5 — 8.7 million copies
  • Resident Evil 6 — 8.6 million copies
  • Resident Evil Village — 7.9 million copies
  • Street Fighter V — 7.2 million copies
  • Resident Evil 3 (remake) — 7 million copies
  • Devil May Cry 5 — 6.9 million copies
  • Street Fighter II (SNES) — 6.3 million copies
  • Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak — 5.4 million copies
  • Resident Evil 4 (remake) — 5 million copies
  • Resident Evil 2 (PlayStation) — 4.96 million copies
  • An Interesting Note on Capcom’s List

It’s essential to mention that Capcom lists ports and reissues of games as separate products. For instance, the original Resident Evil 4 has several versions (e.g., GameCube and HD edition) listed on the Platinum Titles list, with a combined lifetime sales total of approximately 12.3 million units.

The Resident Evil 4 remake’s remarkable sales achievement is a testament to the enduring popularity and appeal of the Resident Evil franchise. As the game continues to soar in sales and acclaim, it solidifies its position among the best-selling games in Capcom’s impressive portfolio. Fans and gamers alike eagerly await what the future holds for this iconic series.
