5 Basic Differences Between Esports And Fantasy Gaming?

1 years ago By AI Smith

Esports and fantasy gaming are two of the fastest growing sectors in the global markets. Both these sports are attracting more and more players, investors and eyeballs to themselves with each passing day.

Esports is a competitive sport where players compete against each other directly in esports titles. Fantasy gaming, on the other hand, is a game of skill and strategy where players compete against each other indirectly by managing a team of players in a virtual league.

Both, esports and fantasy gaming do share some similarities in their core nature. Both are a by product of technological advancements. This means the existence of both is based on the presence of technology, internet and mobile devices. Similarly, both are virtual games played on the internet.

Additionally, both these require the players to possess some level of skill, commitment and practice to master. However, there are several differentiating factors too that set the two apart. Let’s look at some of the basic differences between esports and fantasy gaming

5 Basic Differences Between Esports And Fantasy Gaming?

1. The nature of competition

Esports is a competitive sport where players compete against each other in video games. In Fantasy gaming, players do not compete directly, however they compete against each other indirectly by managing a team of players in a virtual league.

2. Duration

In esports, the tournaments and competitions typically go on for days or even months. The winners are decided only after the tournament finishes. On the other hand, fantasy sports are mostly played in the daily fantasy sports (DFS) format, wherein players play for one day and win.

3. The skills required

Esports requires a high level of skill, game knowledge and years of practice. Players need to be able to play the game at a high level and they also need to be able to strategize, make decisions and change their gameplay in real time. Fantasy gaming, on the other hand, requires a different set of skills like analytical and forecasting skills. Players need to be able to research players, manage their budgets, and make strategic decisions about their teams.

4. The format

Esports tournaments are usually played in a single-elimination or double-elimination format. This means that teams or players are eliminated after they lose one or two matches and the one’s who win matches proceed further. Fantasy gaming contests, on the other hand, do not follow any such formats. Players are given points based on their chosen teams real-time performance, and the players with the highest points get rewarded. There is no elimination concept in fantasy gaming.

5. Luck factor

There is little or no luck factor involved in esports. The results depend heavily on the skills of the players. On the contrary, fantasy gaming has more of the luck factor involved. Once you make a team how your players perform depends on how lucky you are.

In addition to these basic differences, there are also some other key differences between esports and fantasy gaming. For example, esports is often broadcast live on television or online, while fantasy gaming is typically played on a computer or mobile device. Esports is also more popular with younger audiences, while fantasy gaming is more popular with older audiences.

Ultimately, the best way to decide which type of gaming is right for you is to try both and see which one you enjoy more. Both esports and fantasy gaming can be a lot of fun, and they offer different challenges and rewards.
